![]() ![]() I believe they are about the same, or the width of the book is just a little too much and i should have made the spine a little deeper.īECAUSE OF THIS. I think i remember reading that the space between the spine and the covers (the area between the hard binding boards of the spine and 2 cover pieces) should be ATLEAST the width of your book. The pages ALMOST did not fit in this book. There is not enough room for the book to "rest" once it's all put together. Undecided about this.Īnd the last 2 images from this book. For the black cloth, i left the cloth un folded to see if i can get away without folding the cloth before i attach it to the cover. For the blue cloth, i folded the edge that is closest to the spine of the book. This was good because i tried different things on the black side. I will just barely put enough glue to reach the corners, and i may put just a little bit of glue on the cloth where the endpapers overlap.Īlso, you can see that i have a blue side (on the left) and a black side (on the right) because i ran out of blue cloth. What i do is i apply PVA glue evenly with a brush to the binder board as you see in photo 1. The 2nd image shows the endpaper glued, using PVA glue. If the cloth is wrinkled there your endpaper will look bad. ![]() The only thing that matters is that the cloth is as wrinkle free as possible where it meets the back of the book, where your endpapers are going to go down. YOu can see it's a little messy but 98% of this will not be seen. Two photos attached, first is the before i glue the PAPER BLOCK and endpaper to the covers. I think you will be okay with spray adhesive, but the PVA glue may be the best, but you may have to have thick paper to make sure it stays. I need to run to barnes and noble to rebuy the book that i lost that covers this topic. I think that is what i would do when i made the books years ago. ![]() The spray is a good method to glue the page to the covers. It ocurred to me while I wrote #10 that it might be worth using the same spray adhesive I use for my framing. I can explain all of this if people do not understand. ![]() To make it even stronger you add a piece of cloth to the gluing. The second book i also glued the top pages, near where i sewed. The pages are just a stack of pages, not folded, and i punched 4 holes along one end where i sewed the pages together. I would have made it all one cloth and i may do that, but if i try to make a leather book i may need to do it in 3 pieces (2 pieces per cover and 1 piece for the spine.) My book is is made out of binder board and 3 pieces of book cloth, to try to simulate the mypulisher leather book. The back of the cover has a simple paper glued on and than you have the simple photo pages. It's basically made of binder board for the hardness, wrapped with leathercloth that has felt or something else to give a padding, followed by stitching to secure the leather to the binder board. The top book is a mypublisher leatherbound book. As of now, a 5 1/2" x 8" book will cost only about $3 to make a photo album (not counting the paper and ink to print the pages, i am guessing that will be another $5 to $20 depending on the book). I can easily simulate this book if i can find a good place to buy leather, right now i am just using book cloth.ĭoes anyone have any suggestion on stitching methods or gluing? I have made 2 test books that are OKAY but i am just practicing and finding the best method. It's very basic and it looks like they are just stapling the pages together and the most expensive part is just the leather cover. I am tempted to rip apart the book (carefully) to see how they put it together. There are so many different ways to make a book so i am trying to find the best and easiest method.Īnyways, i recently ordered a leather bound book from mypublisher and they messed up one of the books. So i thought hey, since i have a nice large format printer that can print 11" x 17" prints, i could make a nice 8 1/2" x 11" photo album at my home!Īll i would need to do is make the hard cover and combine the photo pages together. I happen to used to have a hobby of making small books like notebooks because they are very cheap to make and it's fun to do. Hello all, i am a professional photographer that has to put together albums for clients so i have been looking at different companies photo albums. ![]()
